Fritz Hansen's Clam pendant lamp is design studio Ahm & Lund's interpretation of a seashell hiding a pearl – in this case, though, the pearl is a light source. The lamp was first seen in the Danish television show Danmarks næste klassiker in 2019, in which it was chosen as the winner of the lighting category. In the episode, the contestants were tasked with designing a pendant that could be placed over a dining table.
Manufactured by Fritz Hansen, the Clam pendant's opal glass dome filters the light softly and gives the luminaire a timeless, elegant look, which is complemented by its gently shimmering brass details. The brass decorations also have a practical function, as the screw placed at the bottom of the luminaire can be used to open the dome, revealing the light source, or the pearl, hidden inside it. This results in a beam of light, shining over the dining table, that is still glare-free and comfortable.
