Description

Carl Hansen & Søn's Extend Table represents a more modern design in the range of the traditional Danish brand. Designed by Strand+Hvass in 2007, the extendable table pays tribute to the grand old masters of design, but at the same time brings – quite literally – something new and innovative to the table.

Instead of a separate extension leaf, the table has a concealed butterfly foldout mechanism that can simply be pulled out of one of the table's ends. Thanks to the honeycomb structure of the extension, the table is lightweight and easy to maneuver. The table measures almost two meters in length as such and, with the extension, it becomes as long as three meters.

Strand+Hvass

The Danish designers Christina Strand and Niels Hvass have run the design studio Strand + Hvass since 1998. Their emphasis is on furniture and lightning design, but they do also other projects within design. Strand + Hvass bring their own stringent aesthetic approach to the design process, whereas the results can vary a lot. However, both of them are strictly dedicated on simplicity, the overall picture and details.
