Description

Grythyttan Stålmöbler's chair 1 has brought the quality of Swedish design to patios, balconies and gardens since the 1930s – in fact, this chair is the smaller sibling of the armchair A2 that once propelled the success of the Swedish company. Designed by Artur Lindqvist, chair 1 features a slender, stackable steel tube structure that provides a comfortable, gently rocking seating experience for any outdoor space. This distinctive steel base is a recurring feature in many of Grythyttan Stålmöbler's chairs. Over time, the galvanized steel parts will acquire a matte surface, while the untreated teak wood will develop a beautiful silver-grey patina.

Chair 1 is part of Grythyttan Stålmöbler's Classic collection. With its first pieces dating back to the Swedish functionalist design of the 1930s, the Classic collection is designed specifically for outdoor use. Comprising minimalist steel frames and natural wooden elements, different pieces of the Classic collection complement each other effortlessly, while their timeless, modern feel makes them easy to pair with contemporary design as well. The products are made at Grythyttan Stålmöbler's factory in Sweden.

Artur Lindqvist

Artur Lindqvist (1897–1983) was a Swedish designer and the founder of Lindqvist's Smidesfabrik, which later became known as Grythyttan Stålmöbler. Originally a horseshoe manufacturer, Lindqvist became interested in furniture-making and Nordic functionalism when the market for horseshoes was declining. His hugely popular armchair A2 was introduced in 1930, and after that, Lindqvist designed a whole range of classic pieces that are still produced by Grythyttan Stålmöbler.
