Description

String Light Sphere Head lamp, designed by Michael Anastassiades for the Italian Flos, has a particular charm to it that ultimately lies in the extra long cable. The canopy is sold separately; alternatively, a base power supply with floor switch is also available.

Anastassiades got the inspiration for the design when looking out from train windows. He was fascinated by how overhead wires connected the pylons but at the same time divided the landscape, and wanted to express this poetic sentiment in his String Light lamps. The lamps have a particularly long cable that, with the help of hooks included in the package, can be hung in a configuration as minimalistic or as complicated as you wish, taking the light source to where it is needed.

Michael Anastassiades

Michael Anastassiades is an English designer who explores contemporary notions of culture and aesthetics by means of product, furniture and environmental design. His objects are often minimal and functional, at the same time positioning between fine art and design in vital and unexpected ways. Anastassiades has trained as a civil engineer and has a master’s degree in industrial design from London’s Royal College of Art, and in 1994 he opened his own studio in London. Anastassiades is a winner of many notable design awards, and his work is featured in permanent collections of museums such as New York’s MoMA, London’s Victoria and Albert Museum and Orleans’ FRAC Centre.
