Arne Jacobsen's AJ Roman wall clock is based on the giant clock that Jacobsen designed in the 1940s for the tower of Aarhus City Hall. Finished with Roman numerals, the elegant timepiece features classic yet reduced graphics and an aluminium case that gives the clock a floating appearance when mounted on the wall.
Architect and designer Arne Jacobsen is predominantly known as a pioneer of Danish modernism, and the classic style of the AJ Roman clock might seem uncharacteristic of him – but in fact, Jacobsen created several clock faces with Roman numerals around the same time. Drawings and watercolors depicting clocks and clock towers have been found in Jacobsen's archives, many of which were sketched during his travels in France and Italy.
