Golden Bell Savoy is a new version of A330S pendant launched in 2017 for the 80th anniversary of the Restaurant Savoy in Helsinki. The Golden Bell pendant was originally designed by Alvar Aalto for the Restaurant Savoy in 1937. Like the other A330S pendants, Golden Bell Savoy is made of one single piece of brass, but its polished surface has been left uncoated, so over time, it will develop a beautiful and unique patina. Unpolished inside of the lamp creates a warmer light than the other models of the series. The pendant is equipped with a brass canopy and a black textile cable, and it resembles closely Aalto's first versions of the A330S lamps which are still in use at Restaurant Savoy.
Designing lights had a central part in Alvar Aalto's work – for him lighting played an important role in architecture. Lamps were a part of the whole that he wanted to control to the smallest detail. Many of Aalto's lights were originally created for a particular building. The elegant A330S pendant combines Alvar Aalto's typical streamlined design and the characteristic diffused light.
