Description

The Kori table light by Artek is part of a collection of luminaires, conceived by TAF Studio, with each design based on a central “basket of light”. This is also where the collection’s name stems from: Kori is Finnish for “basket”.

As you would expect from an Artek luminaire, the Kori lamps emit both direct and indirect light, creating a cosy, welcoming atmosphere and lighting that imitates natural light: the soft glow coming from within the basket resembles the evening sun shining through the leaves. Made in Italy, the collection’s luminaires are designed to be durable and low-maintenance, and their metal components can be easily separated and recycled. The table lamp is finished with a bright yellow-orange powder coating.

In the Kori table lamp, the “basket of light” has been turned upside down resulting in a luminaire that looks like a miniature lamppost or perhaps a tiny lighthouse guiding weary travellers back home. The multifunctional lamp emits a beam of direct uplight as well as diffused downward light on a wider area, and it is, therefore, suitable for a variety of uses from accent lighting to a reading light – place it on a shelf, sideboard, windowsill or bedside table.

TAF Studio

The Swedish architects Gabriella Lenke and Mattias Ståhlbom have run the architecture and design studio TAF (previously TAF Architects) in Stockholm, Sweden, since 2002. TAF Studio’s aim is to make ordinary life less ordinary through subtle but effective changes in how products and architecture appear and function. A recurrent departure point in TAF Studio’s projects is that everyday objects by their very commonness can be made uncommon.
