Description

Audo Copenhagen’s Eclipse desk is Fred Rigby Studio's fascinating exploration of materials and shapes, inspired by pebbles Fred Rigby had collected at the beach. When viewed from above, the shape of the top does, indeed, evoke images of pebbles that the waves have slowly ground round and smooth.

In addition to the unique top, the desk features asymmetrical legs that are also quite unusual: the top rests on one wide wooden leg and one metal column, which at the same time acts as storage space for a table lamp cable, for example. The detail not only makes the table distinctive but also helps to keep the desk tidy and to focus on working instead of clutter. “I want people to feel inspired when they sit at it. To lean back and touch the curved edge; to find a calmness within to focus on work,” Rigby has said.

Fred Rigby Studio

Founded in 2008, Fred Rigby Studio is a London-based design practice specialising in sculptural furniture made from natural materials. The founder of the office, Fred Rigby, spent his childhood in Dorset, England, and studied design at Kingston University in London. Both have had a strong impact on his work as a designer: the rolling hills and limestone cliffs of Dorset continue to be an important source of inspiration for the designer, while his art and design studies have imbued his approach with conceptuality that blurs the line between art and design. Over the years, Rigby has also accumulated an immense amount of know-how in manufacturing methods, which is reflected in his furniture as a unique combination of traditional craftsmanship and the use of the latest technologies.
