From Sydney, Australia, lifestyle photographers Lauren and Nick choose their six favorite items from Finnish Design Shop. The choices reflect their passion for design with a timeless and versatile appeal.
SUNDAY HOURS is the brainchild of Australian creative couple Lauren and Nick, a place where they share their beautifully pared-down work for lifestyle brands, as well as inspirational images from their home, style and travels. They can’t wait to be able to combine their passion for travel and photography once again.
Hello Lauren and Nick, thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Could you please briefly introduce yourself?
“We’re a creative couple living in Sydney, Australia. Under the name Sunday Hours, we work with brands to produce lifestyle imagery for their campaigns and social media. We also post photographs of our own home, style and travels on Instagram, which is how Sunday Hours came about originally — a place for us to share things we like. We enjoy helping to tell the story behind spaces and objects visually, drawing in and inspiring the viewer.”
Do you have a dream creative project or collaboration?
“When travel becomes possible for us again, we’d love to photograph various design hotels around the world. Combining our love for design and travel with our photography work would be a dream situation. There are so many beautiful hotels where every element has been painstakingly designed and curated, and we’d love to highlight these sometimes overlooked details of the travel experience.”

What does good design mean to you? What makes a design classic?
“To us, good design is anchored in timelessness. We look for versatility and simplicity when investing in design pieces, so that our furniture and homewares are well-suited to wherever we may live in the future – not just right now. These types of design classics are objects that last with everyday use, have a unique visual appeal that often becomes iconic, and aren’t particularly affected by trends.”
Top 6 picks by Lauren & Nick:
1. Dine in Nordic style
“These chairs from Hay’s About A Chair collection were some of the first nice pieces we purchased when we moved in together. We’ve received many compliments on them when having people over for dinner (though sadly can’t say the same about the food).”
2. For any occasion
“Artek’s iconic stools by Alvar Aalto are essential for every household, including ours! They’re so versatile in how they can be used, such as for extra seating, as a bedside table or to elevate an indoor pot plant.”
3. Rippled glass
“Our glassware collection consists almost entirely of the Ferm Living Ripple range. These long glasses are the perfect size for an iced latte on a warm summer morning.”

4. Let it bloom
“We love a touch of greenery in our home, and have had our eyes on the Échasse vase from Menu for a while. It’s so elegant while still looking very modern.”
5. For outdoor lounging
“We are looking to buy our first home this year, and are coveting the Palissade range by Hay for when we have a little more outdoor space for hosting friends and family.”
• Hay’s Palissade lounge chair >
6. The charm of linen
“Linen bedding is the best choice for our climate here in Sydney, and we love the relaxed feeling it gives to the bedroom. With linen bedding, such as this linen duvet cover by Langø, it’s super easy to quickly make your bed look great in the morning.”
