In February, snow has fallen, but here at Finnish Design Shop, we definitely have turned our gaze toward the approaching spring. An easy way to get a head start to the light is to update your décor with bright new colors. Check out this month’s colorful newcomers and pick up your vivid favorites from this kaleidoscopic quintet!
Classics revived
Let's start with the classics, or at least a fresh interpretation of some of the most classic patterns! Antti Kekki has designed an abstract pattern that incorporates elements from two iconic Marimekko designs: the Siirto blanket features characteristic stripes from Tasaraita, along with more organic shapes vaguely reminiscent of flower petals of Unikko. The charming blanket is made of organic cotton and its relaxed look is finished with fringes.
Combining the past with the present
Our second newcomer is blending the past with the modern, too. &Tradition's charming Montera JH42 table lamp pays homage to its designer Jaime Hayón's homeland: the luminaire gets both its name and silhouette after the hat that was traditionally worn by Spanish bullfighters.
The Montera table lamp embodies Hayón's signature captivating yet restrained use of colors, making the lamp a great fit for various interiors, from home to public spaces as well. The brightness of the light can be easily adjusted to suit the space and mood by using the handy dimmer on the side.
No more boring storage
Thinking of how to keep and hold different items around the home may seem a bit dull, but fortunately, it can be turned into a fun endeavor with the little help of good storage furniture. String Furniture's bright orange Relief chest of drawers offers a pleasant way to store socks, shirts, accessories, and other everyday essentials.
The drawer unit is part of the Relief collection designed by TAF Studio, where racks and drawers can be freely mixed with each other. By combining different sizes and colors, you can easily create a modular storage system that fits your needs perfectly.
P.S. If your storage system is still taking shape, remember to try out our convenient Build Your Own tool that makes creating your dream shelving system a breeze.
Wishing you a colorful sleep
If someone dares to claim that the color of the duvet cover doesn't matter because we sleep with our eyes closed at night, they don't know what they're talking about! You can try it yourself: sleeping under Tekla's brightly colored duvet, dreams can only be pleasant.
Tekla Fabrics, founded in 2017, is best known for its high-quality home textiles. Tekla's bedding is made of high-quality cotton percale, a material often used in hotel bed linens due to its cool and crisp feel – so it's no wonder that these Oeko-Tex-certified duvet covers make each night feel like you spent it in a luxury hotel. Sweet dreams!
Spring's splendor
With the arrival of spring, the home longs for colorful day-to-day objects but also just beautiful adornments. The newcomer from Iittala's Birds by Toikka series, Leppäinen, has flown here to rescue. The beautiful bird is dressed in a pastel feather suit and has pedestal-like long legs and large tail feathers. The bird is mouth-blown, making each individual one-of-a-kind – just like their natural counterparts.
