Crafted from teak heartwood, the RIB patio furniture by Sibast is designed with durability at its heart, ensuring it can be cherished and passed down through the generations. This approach embodies Morten Anker’s vision as a second-generation designer of teak outdoor furniture.
RENOWNED FOR ITS high-quality wooden furniture, the Danish brand Sibast has enriched its furniture line with a new outdoor collection that serves as a nod to the clean, minimalist ethos of the Danish Modern.
The RIB collection features a versatile array of teak patio furniture, from elegant dining sets to loungers and deck chairs, all united by a harmoniously simplified appearance, a tactile sense of craftsmanship, and surfaces constructed from teak slats.
These sturdy pieces boast a visually light aesthetic, airiness, and connection to the surrounding nature: the slatted structure allows wind to flow through, sunlight to dapple across surfaces, and rainwater to quickly drain away.
The RIB collection is the brainchild of Morten Anker, a second-generation outdoor furniture designer. The Danish Anker family has been crafting teak garden furniture for nearly three decades, passing down a passion for wooden furniture through the bloodline.
Developing the extensive outdoor collection was a journey of detail and patience – the pieces were carefully refined over the years, paying tribute to the golden age of Danish mid-century design. The collection’s understated lines and deliberate details draw inspiration from Danish design legends such as Hans J. Wegner, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, and Helge Sibast.
For the Anker family, the choice of teak stems from its unparalleled qualities for outdoor use. Teak’s natural oils repel moisture, and its robust nature stands up to the elements, enduring through the changing seasons, year after year, even generation after generation.
All the pieces in the RIB collection are made from the most durable part of the teak, its core.
All the pieces in the RIB collection are made from the most durable part of the teak, its core. These pieces are left completely untreated by any chemicals, highlighting the natural beauty of the material. Teak, a tropical hardwood, is sourced responsibly from certified plantations, a priority for both Sibast and the Anker family.
Like the Anker family, Sibast is also a Danish family business, with its roots dating back to 1908. Starting as a modest carpentry shop in 1908, Sibast played a pivotal role in elevating Danish design on the world stage, thanks in part to iconic pieces like the Sibast No 7 and No 8 chairs designed by Helge Sibast.
Re-launched in 2012, Sibast is today steered by Helge’s grandson Ditlev Sibast, and his wife Anna Sibast, continuing the legacy of Danish craftsmanship and design.
