The fall 2022 exhibition in Finnish Design Shop’s showroom was inspired by the intersection of classic and contemporary design, international flair, the cool stylishness of metal and plush natural materials. Showroom Manager Maija Rasila presents some of the most interesting picks from the new exhibition.
“DESIGN AT ITS BEST has the power to thrill and enthrall, inspiring conversation and inviting you to explore every detail. However, by no means does an interior have to be brim full of fine design to be interesting. The secret is in the details: the combinations of colors and materials, little unexpected elements that add an extra touch of vigor and beauty to the surroundings and complement the overall layout.
Finnish Design Shop has now unveiled the fall 2022 exhibition in its showroom, and the main theme this year is the skillful matching of different materials and contrasting details. In addition to soft autumnal tones, we are always inspired by the intersection of classic and contemporary design, international flair, the cool stylishness of metal and plush natural materials. The results are a joy to behold, and design experiences to treasure. Here are some of the creations we’re particularly excited about right now.”
Colors soft and fresh
This fall’s design palette is characterized by soft and warm tones, with glowing splashes of color and contrasting materials. Hues of sand and nougat are sharpened and given a contemporary overtone by beautifully crafted glass, steel, and details in timelessly stylish black.
“The power of contrasting colors and materials should never be underestimated.”
The color chosen for the cut-off wall is Finnish paint company Cover Story’s shade Mary, a cool blue-grey that further accentuates the warm tones. When it comes to enlivening an interior, the power of contrasting colors and materials should never be underestimated.

Scandinavian design with touches of Spain
Trends come and go, but the marriage of oak and cognac-colored leather will never fall out of favor.
In our fall exhibition we present Fredericia’s Spanish Chair, a classic designed by Børge Mogensen and first launched in 1958. The chair is available in oak or walnut with a choice of finishes. The seat upholstery is always leather. Inspired by traditional Spanish furniture craftsmanship, this sturdy chair is surprisingly slim, making it a good choice for smaller living rooms. Its bold, clear design also provides an inspired counterbalance for plush modular sofas.

Best for guests
Many of Finnish Design Shop’s customers have a common interior design problem: they are looking for a sleek, Scandinavian sofa that can easily be transformed into a guest bed.
Thankfully, Finnish design company Lundia has risen to the challenge with its Hetki sofa, just the latest demonstration of Lundia’s firmly established expertise in practical and simple design. The front part of the solid wood frame is easily pulled out to transform the sofa into a bed 120 cm across, wide enough for two sleepers if needed.
“The Hetki sofa is just the latest demonstration of Lundia’s firmly established expertise in practical and simple design.”
To complement the minimalist sofa bed, we’ve paired it with bold products from Hem and Vitra. However, the sofa bed is also perfect for a serenely Scandinavian atmosphere. In addition to the black frame, the sofa is also available in oak, with several fabric options for the machine-washable upholstery.

Easygoing luxury
A footstool always adds a touch of comfort – and this relaxed design item can be effortlessly transformed from an extra seat to a footrest in an instant. This makes it a great choice by the fireplace or in a children’s playroom.
One of the several footstools Finnish Design Shop offers is HAY’s multifunctional Pouf, available in a range of vivid shades. Thanks to their lightweight styrofoam filling, these square footrests are easy to move around to exactly where you want them. They also make an excellent complement to various seating groups, as can be seen in our showroom. When used as a seat, a low and compact footstool is often just the thing for places where a chair with a backrest might be too much of an obstruction.

New colors for a design classic
The Standard chairs designed by the French maestro Jean Prouvé are an undisputed modern wonder of the design world. Despite its distant origins way back in 1934, it could have been designed in any era – the very definition of timelessness. Behind the chair’s distinctive shape is a sound understanding of how seating is subjected to stress: most of the sitter’s weight rests on the rear legs of the chair, which is why they are made of thick steel. The front legs of the Standard, because they have less of a burden to carry, are made of a slender metal tube.

In September 2022, Vitra updated this range of classic chairs with five new colors. In addition to the new colors in the Standard range, our showroom also features the EM Table designed by Prouvé, which is a perfect match for the chairs.

This fall’s finest ceramics
Sculptural ceramics are at the forefront of interior design trends this fall, too. The range of smaller design items in the Finnish Design Shop showroom now also includes a variety of ceramic dishes and bowls to liven up your table and interior design.
The Triptych bowls of different sizes recently launched by the Danish company MENU are an inspired choice for the kitchen, living room, or even bedroom. It’s easy to think of many uses for these gorgeous bowls: the smallest are just right for jewelry and keys, while the larger sizes can be used not only for serving but also as eye-catching storage and decorative elements on a bookshelf or coffee table.
