LOCAL PRODUCTION AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS are integral to the Swedish brand Maze's Slow Production philosophy. Louise Hederström's Pieces series fits the sustainably-minded manufacturer's range like a glove: it has been designed with longevity and the practicalities of everyday life in mind, not forgetting a playful edge.
The collection's name refers to an abundance of creative material combinations. The furniture makes use of leather, wood and metal in inventive ways, whether it be leather handles or a perforated metal front that hides household clutter. Finished off with a clean color palette, the products are excellent matches for the entrance, living room, dining space and bedroom.
Due to the furnishings' whimsical names, choosing your own favorite may resemble inviting home a brand-new friend. The items include the spacious Frank storage bench with a leather seat, the Liza cabinet fitted with three shelves as well as the slim-lined Tracy side table. As for the Anyone stool and Anytwo bench, the names hint at the number of people they cater to.
Many of the Pieces collection's products look to years past for inspiration. For instance, a second-hand dining chair from the 1950s was Hederström's reference point for the streamlined Same chair – the end result is an elegant piece, complete with a bent plywood seat and a look suited to a multitude of home decor styles. The Francis cabinet, crafted from perforated metal, is another treat with a classic feel.
The Slow Production thinking offers a responsible framework for all of Maze's operations. The brand, committed to only crafting furnishings with a purpose, wishes to solve problems faced by modern day dwellers. Fair working conditions, sustainable forestry and the wide use of recycled materials are some of the ways Maze utilizes to promote greener living.
