Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Finnish Design Shop delivered a record number of packages around the world in 2020. A sincere thank you to all of our customers for investing in homes and sustainable design during these challenging times! Here’s our last year in numbers.
1,156,308 kilos of timeless design
Finnish Design Shop’s year 2020 was colored by the growing popularity of Scandinavian design and the challenges of COVID-19, as well as the design of our new logistics center. More space is definitely needed, since last year we shipped more than one million kilos of high-quality, timeless design from our warehouse in Turku, Finland. Our warehouse team has been paying special attention to safety issues – for example, face masks are currently an essential part of workwear at the warehouse.
• In 2019, we shipped 668,430 kilos of design.
Team of 133 professionals
Despite the exceptional circumstances, the year 2020 marked significant growth for online shopping, and we recruited dozens of new members to the Finnish Design Shop team. Last year, we exceeded the mark of 100 employees, and by the end of the year, there were already 133 of us! And the number keeps growing.
Our 21-member Customer Service team and the rest of our office staff have been working remotely from their homes since last spring. It was a busy year at the home offices: the Customer Service received about 99,550 contacts and inquiries through different channels – almost double compared to the previous year. Here’s one of them: “The service was very friendly and it felt that my case was taken care of personally. The salesperson’s professionalism and attitude were excellent!”
• At the end of 2019, there were about 80 employees.
Deliveries to 99 countries
We are a 100% Finnish online store, but we operate very internationally. In 2020, we delivered packages to a total of 99 countries and 35,965 zip codes. There were many Scandinavian design enthusiasts in the United States, Japan, and Australia, and even some all the way in Ghana and Guam. One of last year’s favorite products was the Bird Silo bird feeder by Pidät, which we shipped around the world. You can find all the 2020 bestsellers in this story.
• In 2019, we delivered to 94 countries.
3 campaigns for a better world
In 2020, Finnish Design Shop participated in three charity campaigns that promoted values important to us. As an official partner of the Helsinki Pride event, we wanted to show our support for equality, and to celebrate International Women's Day, we raised money for Women’s Bank. The proceeds of Franckly’s Pieces of Hope collection were directed not only to its designers but also to COVID-19 research.

2500 interior design projects
Last year, our Contract Sales team grew to eight members and was involved in about 2,500 interior design projects ranging from small private projects to large-scale public ones, such as the Tikkurila Church in Southern Finland. The team’s long-term work with design and architectural firms resulted in a growing range of projects, even though the year was challenging for many hotels and restaurants. Last year, especially high-quality private projects were on the rise, and Contract Sales also supplied furniture for the beautiful Lumitiikeri house at the Tuusula Housing Fair.
