Design Stories sat down with Marketing and Community Coordinator Harri Herrala, who presents three delightful gift sets launched by Finnish Design Shop’s Trade and Contract Sales.
THE TURN OF THE YEAR offers a perfect moment for companies to show appreciation to their employees and partners and to give thanks for the past year. However, choosing a gift can be difficult – what kind of gift will please as many people as possible, and for as long as possible?
This year, Finnish Design Shop's Trade and Contract Sales team is launching three carefully curated gift sets to facilitate and speed up Holiday gift shopping for companies and entrepreneurs. Marketing and Community Coordinator Harri Herrala told Design Stories the story behind the gorgeous gift sets.
Hello Harri, how do you do? How has your autumn been so far?
“Hey hey hey! Autumn has gone really well, thanks for asking! We've had a magnificent year in Trade and Contract Sales: our already wonderful team has grown with new team members and we've been able to take part in our customers' amazing projects around the world.
Personally, I've been most excited to attend many wonderful events, and catch up with designers, architects, and company representatives. It feels amazing to step away from the screen and see people face to face again, especially when this can no longer be taken for granted. Now it's time to turn an enthusiastic gaze toward the end of the year and the year 2023!”

Where did the idea to offer a curated selection of corporate gifts come from?
“Over the years, several companies have approached us and asked for gift tips for staff to celebrate the Holidays. We thought long and hard about what would make corporate gifting more effortless and came to the conclusion that the pre-thought-out sets would certainly be a big help! And if our three sets are not what you're looking for, we'd be happy to tailor something to exceed your expectations using Finnish Design Shop's range.
In our opinion, it is of utmost importance that corporate gifts truly bring joy to the recipients and that they will be used, and not left at the back of the closet to collect dust. This is also a big thing from the point of view of sustainability – giving unnecessary stuff just feels wrong.”
What should I do if I want to order the sets?
“Ordering the sets has been made as uncomplicated as possible! Simply send us an e-mail telling us how many and which sets you'd like to order and we'll deliver them to an address of your choice. In terms of quantity the choice is entirely up to you: order two, twenty, or two hundred pieces – on bigger quantities, we'll double-check the availability for you, but we've chosen the sets keeping in mind that there will be enough stock for larger orders as well.
In Finland, after delivery, we send the customer an online invoice, while payment from abroad is effortlessly managed with a credit card or bank transfer. The items will be sent as soon as we have cleared the payment, so this is also a very straightforward operation.”

On what basis were these products selected for the gift sets?
“We wanted to choose gifts that would be as practical and functional as possible, but also something that would bring a touch of luxury to everyday life. With good design and beautiful objects, even mundane routines can be upgraded into something special, and I think the gifts we have chosen are a perfect match for this.
It was also important to us that the gift sets are sufficiently different from each other so that more tastes can be covered – since we are all fundamentally different.”

Which of the three sets would you choose yourself, and why?
“Although the sauna is close to my heart, we don't have one at home. We do however already have Frama soaps and hand lotion, so it would be an easy choice for me to go with Muller Van Severen's salt and pepper grinders.
The convivial design has an appropriate amount of oomph, and it can even be a little difficult to immediately understand what the objects are meant for. These would be used daily and certainly also displayed in the kitchen!”
