Shades of deep blue, honey, and natural oak boast the new fall exhibition at Finnish Design Shop’s showroom & shop. Showroom Manager and interior architect Maija Rasila presents the highlights of the exhibition.
“AUTUMN SIGNIFIES a new beginning for many, with almost as many symbolic meanings as the New Year. The season has changed, everyday life has begun, and life may have turned slightly inward: it’s time to relax, spend cozy moments at home, and prepare for the darkest time of the year.
Autumn is also a season of new beginnings in interior design: many brands launch new products and interpretations of upcoming trends. And, we can’t help but look ahead to the approaching holiday season. After summer, as life shifts back indoors, home purchases become relevant in a whole new way.
We’re more than happy to assist with interior choices, whether it’s a new sofa set or cozy textiles to add warmth – or anything in between. Our Showroom & shop in Turku currently showcases an exhibition inspired by the loveliest new fall arrivals and an ever-expanding selection of home accessories for the upcoming holiday season.
Honey-like autumn
The most inviting color palette for autumn can be found in sweet treats: the warm tones of toffee, milky coffee, and honey blend beautifully together, especially when you choose different shades and add lighter tones for a refreshing feel.
The new wool rug from the Lilly collection by LAYERED features a structured check pattern in a soft mustard hue.
In the background, you can see Paavo Tynell’s 9602 floor lamp with a patterned fabric shade created in collaboration with the iconic French textile house Pierre Frey. Adding to the classic atmosphere are the oiled birch Paimio chair and Stool 60 with a sun yellow seat, both part of Artek’s anniversary collection.

Various shapes of sofas
Currently, there is a wide variety of sofa shapes available. In addition to plush modular sofas, slim and narrow-legged models are still popular and practical choices, especially for compact living spaces.
Muuto’s sought-after Outline sofa is also available in a chaise longue version, offering a more relaxed seating experience. This slim and lightweight sofa model works well in smaller living rooms but can also beautifully fill a larger space – consider a classic combination of two sofas in such cases.
The look is accentuated by LAYERED’s sharp black-and-white Avenue Checked rug. In the foreground, Vitra’s Nelson bench is a classic piece that can serve as a coffee table, a stand for houseplants or a TV, or be placed in entryways – truly a versatile furniture piece.

Oak & oak
Solid wood dining sets are always a great, relevant choice. In recent years, wooden furniture has enjoyed increased popularity, but there’s no need to fear over-trendiness with these straightforward wooden pieces. Unadorned wooden furniture fits various styles and homes, remaining a timeless choice year after year.
Muuto’s Linear Wood table in oak is pleasantly simple in shape, and it pairs well with various chairs. We chose &Tradition’s Betty chairs, also made of oak, which feature a similar, rounded yet angular design language. The leather upholstery adds seating comfort and a luxurious finish to the chair. Adding a touch of lightness is the fiberglass Random Light pendant by Moooi, bringing refreshing contrast to the oak set.
Deep blue charm
At the entrance, shades of deep blue catch the attention. We recently put up Muuto’s Connect Soft sofa, which is a slightly softer and cozier version of the popular Connect modular sofa. This model is an excellent choice for spaces where modularity, sleek design, and extra comfortable seating are needed. However, the sofa’s seat depth is moderate, making it easy to sit upright when needed.
The sofa is paired with Joanna Laajisto’s Centenniale coffee table, a new addition for fall from the Finnish brand Nikari. The table is made from over 100-year-old wood, and its natural characteristics, such as unique grain patterns, cracks, and knots, have not been hidden. These distinctive details make each table a beautiful and unique piece – a true visual delight!
The entrance is also colored by Woodnotes’ New York paper cord rug, customized with color combinations for our showroom. Paper cord is a pleasant and easy-to-maintain material: the rug’s smooth, dense surface repels dirt and is easy to keep clean. Therefore, it is a great choice not only for the living room but also under the dining table or for dry entrance spaces. It’s also an excellent fit for allergy-prone households.
When it comes to sizes and patterns, there’s plenty of variety to choose from. In addition to pre-designed color combinations, you can also order the rug in shades handpicked from Woodnotes’ color palette. The rug is also available in custom sizes.
