Fritz Hansen
The understated and timeless shapes of Danish design captivate both home living rooms and public spaces.

WELCOME, FRITZ HANSEN! We're excited to announce that some cherished classic products from Fritz Hansen, a pioneer in furniture design, are now available in Finnish Design Shop. For over 150 years, this beloved Danish brand has captivated design enthusiasts both in Denmark and around the globe.

The story began in 1872 when carpenter Fritz Hansen established a furniture factory bearing his name in Copenhagen. Since those early days, the Danish company has been dedicated to developing innovative manufacturing techniques to create stylish and timeless furniture.

Fritz Hansen
Fritz Hansen's philosophy has stayed the same as at the beginning: just one single piece of furniture is enough to transform the whole ambiance of a room.

So, what makes Fritz Hansen's furniture such cherished classics? There are many reasons, but let's list a few: the graceful and sleek design, versatile ways of use, and of course, the high-quality materials that withstand time, maintaining their appearance year after year – or developing a charming patina that makes them look even better!

Fritz Hansen
Arne Jacobsen, one of Fritz Hansen's most famous designers, was a master of graceful design, as can be seen in his iconic Ant chair and Egg table.

One of Fritz Hansen's best-known designers was Arne Jacobsen, who joined the company in the 1930s. The true breakthrough came a couple of decades later when Jacobsen's Ant chair was released in 1952. The iconic chair was originally designed for the canteen of the Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk.

The seat of the Ant chair consists of nine layers of veneer bent into one piece.

The iconic waist was originally a compromise: the laminated and molded multi-layer veneer wouldn't have bent unbroken without narrowing.

The shape of the Series 7 3107 chair evolved from the Ant chair as manufacturing technology developed.

In addition to the Ant chair, Jacobsen introduced several other classics. Among these is the versatile Series 7 3107 chair developed from the Ant chair as manufacturing technologies advanced. Available in countless color and upholstery options, the Series 7 chair is still the best-selling product in Fritz Hansen's history.

Famous from the Milan Triennale, the Grand Prix chair is also made using the same technology.

Series 7, Ant, and Grand Prix chairs, bent from veneer, are a good example of Fritz Hansen's constant commitment to developing new and innovative manufacturing techniques.

Although Jacobsen was a master in designing office and dining chairs, he also created seating for the honest pleasure-seekers. Designed in 1958, the Egg lounge chair is one of the greatest icons of Scandinavian design, and it got its iconic, eggshell-like shape after Jacobsen's experiments with plaster and metal wire in his garage.

Also known as 3316, the Egg chair was also originally designed for the lobby and reception areas in the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

Ergonomic Egg is the perfect companion for reading, watching TV, or simply relaxing in the chair's soft embrace.

Those looking for a slightly more supportive relaxation will be delighted with Jacobsen's Swan chair. Swan is a graceful – someone might even say swan-like – armchair with a design that doesn't have a single straight line.

The timeless and minimalist Swan chair was also originally designed for the lobby of the SAS Royal Hotel.

Back in the 1950s, the Swan lounge chair was a technological wonder, with its curvy form breaking away from the straight and simple lines of traditional armchairs.

In addition to different kinds of chairs, Fritz Hansen offers a diverse range of furniture. The Lissoni collection, designed by the Italian designer and architect Piero Lissoni, features sofas and armchairs that bring Scandinavian simplicity to living rooms and lobbies.

The Lissoni sofa features carefully considered details, such as elegant metal legs and gracefully curved armrests and backrests.

Finally, let’s toast to the tables! Fritz Hansen's selections bring a dash of style and a whole lot of function to your living room and kitchen with a wide range of coffee and dining tables.

Paul McCobb's Planner coffee table is perfect for holding both your morning coffee and your heart-to-heart late-night chats; while the Superellipse dining table hosts dinner parties and completes the décor with a touch of Scandinavian flair.
